Latinx Heritage Month has officially started!

From September 15th to October 15th, we honor and highlight contributions made by people of Latinx descent and the rich cultures of these diverse identities. Since 1995, we have served the local Latinx community with our Mujeres Unidas (Women United) support group.

This support group is designed to meet the unique needs of domestic violence survivors of Latinx descent and is facilitated in Spanish by advocates who are rooted in the Latinx cultural experience and certified to provide interpretation in a variety of settings.

You may recall that last year the Mujeres Unidas group held a fundraising event selling Nelson’s Chicken. The funds raised in 2021 helped make it possible for this incredible group of women to organize a full-day retreat at Fox Island! With the help of those who contributed to last year's fundraiser, we were able to support the costs of transportation, room rental, lunch, and 3 different speakers.

The topics discussed provided them with tools and resources for self-care, information on healthy living, and a peaceful day of self-reflection. This rare and special opportunity allowed them to come together and hold space for one another.

This year, the women have an even more ambitious goal!

They would like to host Mexican activist, Norma Nolasco. The group is eager to have her speak on the feminist movement currently happening in Mexico and across Latin America.

If the group is able to cover her airfare and accommodations,  she will come and give her internationally recognized seminar “How to be a super woman and not die trying” at no additional cost.

How can you help make this happen?

Help the Mujeres Unidas support group generate enough funds to cover the expenses of airfare and accommodations for Norma Nolasco.

THIS IS POSSIBLE WITH YOUR PURCHASE OF NELSON’S CHICKEN!

Bring your pre-sale tickets or purchase a ticket on-site! Each ticket is just $9 for a grilled chicken half.
